The best thing about snow at my age is that I get a day to stay in, all appointments are canceled and errands are postponed. I began today deciding if we had 10 inches of snow or 12 inches. It was a close call. We haven’t had such a snowfall in several years. After feeding the dogs, I came upstairs and dug into THE WORD for several hours. I love nothing better than opening up the Bible and searching out the truths of God through His inspiration. I am now involved in several Bible Studies and I’m loving each of them because they connect me with my Lord.
I kept going back to my studies inbetween cleaning house and watching the birds feed. We have several sets of Cardnials that visit the feeder Rob (my husband) keeps full. He is faithful to make sure the birds are fed daily. We have Woodpeckers of various types, Blue Jays, chick-a-dees, tufted titmouse, doves, crows and red-wing black birds. Soon we will begin to see the eastern blue birds, the beautiful yellow finches and my favorite, the hummingbirds along with more varieties than I can name.
How good is our God to give us these small and mysterious creatures to watch and enjoy and to have dominion over. They seem so fragile, and yet they endure the cold and the snow much better than we could. I’m reminded of Jesus’ teaching from Matthew 6.
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,j or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?k 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of Godl and hism righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
